(15 July 2025) On behalf of the Department of Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, it is with great pleasure and honor that I extend a very warm welcome to Professor Steve Edwards from the University of Liverpool and to all the students joining us for this exciting internship program at our Tropical Disease Research Center.
Professor Edwards, as one of our valued Adjunct Professors, we deeply appreciate your continued collaboration and your commitment to advancing global health education. Your presence here today, along with your students, further strengthens the long-standing academic partnership between our institutions.
To all the students, welcome to Khon Kaen University and to Thailand. Over the next six weeks, you will be immersed in both the biology and control of tropical diseases—a truly unique opportunity that combines laboratory-based training with impactful community-based learning. One of the highlights of your experience will be working with the LAWA model, our integrated approach to liver fluke control. This model has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a showcase of excellence in tropical disease control and health system integration.
You will not only learn from our dedicated scientists and public health teams, but also engage with the communities most affected by these diseases, gaining a deeper appreciation of the real-world challenges and solutions in tropical medicine.
We sincerely hope you find this internship enriching, inspiring, and enjoyable. May this be a journey of academic growth, cultural exchange, and personal fulfillment. We are confident that your time here will be both productive and memorable.
Once again, welcome to Khon Kaen University, and we wish you every success in your internship.
